From Selfbondage-Shop to Age of Bondage: Our Story

What started in 2015 as a small, specialized shop for self-bondage equipment has grown into something much bigger. Age of Bondage is where our full history, our expertise, and our passion for quality bondage products come together. This is the story of how we got here.

In 2015, we launched the Selfbondage-Shop out of Berlin with one clear focus: building reliable, well-designed products for people who practice self-bondage. At the time, the options on the market were limited. Most self-bondage equipment was improvised, repurposed from other uses, or simply not built with safety and precision in mind.

We wanted to change that. Our first product was the MagBound® magnetic time lock, a fail-safe system that holds while powered and releases automatically when power is cut. No keys, no second person needed. Just a timer, a lock, and the certainty that release will come exactly when it should.

MagBound® became the foundation of everything that followed. Over the years, we expanded it into a full ecosystem: multiple lock versions, timers, software add-ons, furniture mounts, pillory extensions, and the FrostLock® ice lock system as an alternative release mechanism.

The Selfbondage-Shop became known in the community for one thing above all: products that were designed specifically for self-bondage, not adapted from something else. Everything we built was engineered with solo use in mind, from the fail-safe release to the modular setup options.

After several years of building the Selfbondage-Shop, we wanted to broaden our range. Our expertise was in designing restraints and locking mechanisms, and we saw an opportunity to bring the same level of precision and quality to partner play products.

That led to Kinky Cuffs, our second shop. And with it came two product lines we designed from scratch in our Berlin studio.

Quick Cuffs and Quick Collars: fully customizable, 3D-printed restraints. You choose the color, the width, the size. Every pair is made to your measurements. No off-the-shelf sizing, no compromises on fit. The idea behind them was simple: intimacy should not be generic. A restraint that is made for your body feels different from one that is made for everyone. The snap lock mechanism, the modular D-ring system, the range of colors: all of it was designed to make the product feel like yours from the moment you open the box.

deSade® Locking Jewelry: a line of day collars, wrist and ankle bracelets in silver, gold, and black. Discreet enough to wear every day, functional enough to lock. Each piece closes with a hidden hex mechanism and can be connected to other pieces through closures and pendants. Designed for people who want their dynamic visible but not obvious.

Alongside our own designs, Kinky Cuffs also offered heavy metal restraints, classic handcuffs, and advanced bondage gear from trusted brands like Clejuso and KUB.

At the beginning of 2026, we took the next step in our evolution. Under the name Age of Bondage, we brought everything together under one roof.

Age of Bondage is not a rebrand for the sake of a new name. It is the result of ten years of learning what our customers actually need: a single place where self-bondage products, partner play restraints, customizable gear, and locking jewelry all coexist. Where someone can start with a pair of Quick Cuffs and, over time, discover the MagBound® system. Where someone who came for heavy metal shackles finds out that self-bondage is worth exploring too.

The name changed. The people behind it did not. We are still the same team in Berlin, still designing and producing our own products, still obsessing over the details that make a restraint feel right.

Our commitment to self-bondage has not changed either. MagBound® and FrostLock® are still the core of what we do, and we continue to develop them. The Smart Timer V2 with Remote Connect is the latest example: a feature that takes our self-bondage system and opens it up to partner play across any distance.
