How to Measure: Find the Perfect Fit for your Gear
Why Measuring Matters
![]() |
Bondage gear isn’t one-size-fits-all. A too-tight collar or cuffs can constrict, leave unwanted marks, or even become unsafe. A too-loose fit can slip or compromise the feeling of connection, control, or intention you were going for. At Age of Bondage, precise measuring is more than a detail- it’s at the heart of our custom approach. |
How to Measure Various Body Parts
|
What you need:
A flexible measuring tape.
If you don’t have one, a nonstretch string or ribbon + a ruler works just as well (see “No‑Tape Alternative” below).
|
Important Notes:
-
Always measure directly on bare skin for the most accurate results.
-
For our locking jewelry and pieces out of metal (standard sizes), you are responsible for adding the necessary extra space for comfort.
-
For our Quick Collection and everything 3D-printed, just give us your exact body measurement - we take care of the rest.
1. Measuring Neck / Collar Size
- Measure directly on your skin at the thickest point of your neck (usually just below the Adam’s apple). Hold the tape so it lies flat but without pressure; breathe naturally while measuring.
- Check the measurement where the tape end overlaps, then repeat the measurement 2 more times for accuracy.
- Depending on the product, check here if you need to add extra room to this base measurement to allow breathing, movement and comfort:
For locking jewelry and metal products (fixed sizes): Add about 15 mm for comfort and movement. Prefer a closer fit? Add less. Want more room or looser feel? Add a little more.
For our Quick Collection and everything 3D-printed (custom size):
Submit your exact measurement, no need to add extra - our team will adjust for optimal fit.
2. Measuring Wrist / Ankle Size (for Handcuffs / Legcuffs)
- Measure at the thinnest point of your wrist or just above your ankle, directly on the skin, no squeezing.
- Record the measurement, then repeat twice more for consistency.
- Depending on the product, check here if you need to add extra room to this base measurement to allow breathing, movement and comfort:
For locking jewelry and metal products (fixed sizes): Add about5 mm for comfort and movement. Prefer a closer fit? Add less. Want more room or looser feel? Add a little more.
For our Quick Collection and everything 3D-printed (custom size): Submit your exact measurement, no need to add extra - our team will adjust for optimal fit.
Special notes for Ankles (if you want to walk while wearing cuffs):If you plan to walk in your legcuffs, the recommendation is to measure tightly (no extra, or even minus 5 mm for a very snug fit) – but be aware: risk of pressure points increases, comfort may decrease. If you add 5–10 mm, walking becomes more difficult as the cuffs may slip lower onto the feet. Add 20–30 mm if you want a much looser fit - walking may be possible again, but the cuff will not sit snugly.
3. Measuring Waist / Torso Size (for Waist Belts, Harnesses, etc.)
- Stand straight, shoulders relaxed.
- Measure at your natural waist (softest area under the ribs and above the hip bones). Skin contact, no tightness.
- Measure, then repeat twice more for precision.
- The added space for waist products depends on your desired fit and comfort level.
For a classic fit, add 10–20mm to your base measurement.
For a corset-like, tight fit, you can subtract up to 50 mm (for dramatic shaping and compression).
No‑Tape Alternative: What to Do If You Don’t Have a Measuring Tape
- Wrap it around the body part you want to measure as described above.
- Mark where the ends overlap.
- Lay the string flat and measure its length with a ruler - that’s your circumference.
- This method is almost as reliable as a tape - just make sure the string doesn’t stretch and is laid straight when measuring.
Tips for Best Results
- Measure when your body is at rest - no flexing, no sucking in, no pushing out.
- Take each measurement more than once to avoid mistakes.
- Always allow extra room: for breathing, movement, layers - especially if you plan to wear the piece for longer or outside of play.
- If you sit between sizes: when in doubt, choose the slightly larger size. Comfort and safety always come first.
- Keep your measurements saved somewhere, so you don’t have to re‑measure each time you shop with AoB.
