How to Care for Your Metal Bondage Gear
AoB’s metal gear - crafted from high-grade stainless steel or aluminum - offers unmatched strength, sleek aesthetics, and longevity. With a few simple routines, you’ll keep your favorite pieces in flawless condition, ready for every ritual.
General Care: For All Products
-
Test before every use:
Ensure all closures, locks, and moving parts function perfectly. Always check your keys and spares before play.
-
No use if faulty:
If you notice sticking, difficulty closing, or any change in feel - pause and inspect.
-
Storage:
Store clean and dry. Avoid high humidity, extreme temperatures, or direct, continuous sunlight.
-
Keep everything dry:
Especially important for nickel-plated steel pieces.
Cleaning & Maintenance: Stainless Steel & Aluminum
-
Water and moisture:
Stainless steel and aluminum gear can be used in damp environments or under water. After use, rinse and dry thoroughly.
-
Moving parts:
Keep hinges, screws, and locks moving freely by operating them regularly.
-
Oiling:
Apply a drop of sewing machine oil, Ballistol, or fine mechanical oil to moving parts once a year or after significant moisture exposure.
-
Polishing:
Surface scratches can be minimized with stainless steel polish or very fine polishing paste.
Cleaning & Maintenance: Nickel-Plated Steel
-
Water contact:
Nickel-plated gear should not be submerged. Occasional splashes are fine, just dry immediately.
-
Oiling:
As above, keep hinges and moving parts lubricated with a drop of oil after contact with water, or at least once a year.
Special Note: MagBound® Locks and Timer Modules
-
Avoid moisture:
MagBound locks and timers are sensitive, keep magnet faces and anchor plates clean, grease-free, and dry at all times.
-
Prevent blockages:
Even small particles or oils can increase the magnetic force or cause jamming.
With these care routines, your AoB metal gear stays reliable and beautiful for years to come. For questions about cleaning, repairs, or upgrades, our team is always here for you.
